What happened to Mai in January 2013

Bism Illah wa as salaamu alaykum wa RahmatUllahi wa Barakatuh.

After a long silence, for which I apologise, I will share a little of what's been going on with me.

During December I was waddling around with a lot of extra weight on me, and went for Umrah where I remembered all of you dear readers in my dua' during tawwaf.  Alhamdul'Illah for us being brought together to strive for Allah's pleasure!

Then, by the overwhelming mercy and blessing of Allah, subhaana wa ta'ala, I gave birth to a baby boy on the 4th of January 2013. For those who know or have read previous posts, this pregnancy came completely naturally at the age of 47 after a series of 13 miscarriages and without any drugs, medical assistance, or intervention al hamdu l'Illah. Although it isn't a legal option here in Saudi Arabia, Allah blessed us with a home birth.

Although I am busier, tired, and have a full schedule to manage, I have had draft posts sitting around waiting to be edited and published for you, so stay tuned and please forgive the long hiatus.

Barak Allahu feekum!

Ameen, thumma Ameen to your dua and jazaakIllahu khayr!

Yes, I will write a post about having a baby in Madinah inshaa Allah on my other blog, but in a nutshell, I was meant to have the baby in the hospital and planned to wait until it was close to the time so there would not be any interference with a natural birth. I went into labor on the Thursday night, and by fajr the contractions were very strong. Hubby told the girls to take their ghusl for jumu'ah, thinking I'd deliver around noon time. I was waiting for them to come out of the bathroom, by then really writhing in pain, and once they were out I went in, thinking I'd better go before we left for the hospital. As soon as I squatted down to get through a contraction, the head crowned and out popped the baby - just like that. Of course, I had bolted the door and so when I shouted for hubby, he had to break the door down. Needless to say, he just stood there shocked. We had to go to the hospital just as I was, with the baby out and the placenta still in so that we wouldn't have any problems with the hospital to get our papers for the birth certificate. A real escapade I must say, and truly so simple and easy with Allah's blessings and mercy. Al hamdulIllahi Rabbil aal ameen!

  13. MASHALLAH! I love your story! There is only one lady who I have found who purposley gave birth unassisted (in riyadh I believe) and she had to jump through hoops to get her daughter's birth certificate (but she was expecting it, it wasn't a shock). Did the hospital go insane and do a million tests on you and your baby, or were they calm? Btw im Alabaster muslim lol

  14. Yes, I read her story on Saudi Natural Birth Stories blog. I was even thinking of sending my story in, maashaa Allah.

As for us, my husband called the doctor and asked her what we should do. She told us to come there immediately with everything, and that's where we ended up being okay. They took it calmly, particularly as the baby was fine and I still had the placenta inside, so there was no question of foul play. They only did blood tests on the baby and I as the routine procedure. The key was to go there in a mess, with everything there for them to see. The sister in Riyadh cut the cord, cleaned and dressed the baby and had a shower herself, before going to the hospital. That is where they ended up in a problem, because then the hospital cannot testify to the baby being hers and DNA testing, etc. must be done.

It is ironic, because we kept saying we would be better off having an "accidental" home birth after our experiences searching for a hospital to honor our wishes. I also had these daydreams that I'd go to the bathroom and have the baby. Never would we have imagined that it would actually happen!
