I have always posted my writing on parenting here, but in an effort to restructure and keep things relevant, I will be posting them on the Healing Earth blog from now on inshaa Allah. Raising our children is a key element in healing them, ourselves, and the earth. We must teach and model for our children how to heal themselves - which is only possible and successful through Allah, subhaana wa ta'ala, and His clear Guidance.

ReplyDeleteI am extremely grateful to hear from you. I have been worried about you since reading part of post that you subsequently deleted, I believe. As far as homeschooling, you need specialized suggestions based on the age of your boys. I am teaching three girls, 7, 10, and 13 years old and my baby boy is just one, so not yet ready for homeschooling. He is focused on potty training, walking more than 10 steps at a time, and doing the laundry by hand at the moment, LOL.
What you do with your boys at those ages needs to be totally hands on - for everything. They can learn huge amounts, but it needs to be through doing, touching, making, and feeling.I have a :LOT of ideas that I'd love to share with you, many based on an unconventional curriculum that will establish a love of learning, life skills, and how they spend their free time with a strong connection to Islamic principles and the Sunnah inshaa Allah. I just have to figure out HOW to share...but the unpublished post on exposure might set the stage for it, bi idhn Illah.

Assalamu alaikum. Thank you for your time and reply. There are times when I forget where to turn for my problems, or get impatient. And of course my post was in the midst of that. So, I imagine shaytan would have gotten the best of me had I kept it. Things are much better after knowing and practicing turning to Allah first when I have a problem.
ReplyDeleteI guess homeschooling is crazy in a way that I see my four year old doing many things I did not know he would be able to do by now. So, I feel like I might be lacking in a lot of areas where they could be doing more. I am actually only learning memorizing Quran, sunnah and basic life skills right now with them. We are learning together. I contacted the Islamic school to see if I could do some kind of supplementary schooling to which the principal said that her school is not a daycare and need to enroll them full time. I really wish them to be homeschooled at this age because this is a critical age for developing good habits and manners.
I guess that was a lot, just wanted to share my fears of homeschooling. And I really am excited at the prospect of reading your curriculum inshallah. I will e-mail you with questions if you don't mind.
Al hamdul'Illah, all the things you are including are hands-on, "doing" things. Perfect to set up a lifetime of habits and manners that are pleasing to Allah, inshaa Allah. I think that emulating the Sunnah is one of the most fun things to do with children. Reading ahadith about how the Prophet sat, ate, brushed his teeth, greeted people, slept, etc. are interesting and fun to act out. Later on, when they learn more and read ahadith and books of fiqh themselves, there will be nothing new...just reinforcement and confirmation that they learned the right things bi idhn Illah.
DeleteThey are better off at home because children pick up far too much from their peers at school, and it is often the negative things. May Allah protect them from that.
As for you, sounds like you were blessed with a drop of simple sense and took the matter to the Only One Who can help. SOOOO happy to hear that! Al hamdul'Illahi Rabbil aal ameen!
