  2. it all started during the 3rd month of my pregnancy. at the begining i had severe morning sickness which required hospitilazation several times. then after 3 months i began experiencing chest pain, stomach pain, throat pain, weird symptoms and they change ever day..and now i am disabled from the pain as im in pain 24-7. i can only manage a few mouthfuls and i force myself to drink water to keep my baby alive. ive seen countless doctors and none could find an organic cause for the pain. i searched online and read that it may be physcological but i havent read a case as severe as mine. i know everything comes from Allah but i need more direction as what im supposed to belive? is my pain purely in my head or is this actual real pain from Allah.. im so confused because i know that Allah put a reason behind everything. please help.

    1. Wa alaykum as salaam wa Rahmat Allah wa Barakatuh Sarah.

Firstly, may your pregnancy be a blessed and may Allah give you a most pious son, who will be a pleasure to Him every day and a leader to the Straight Path in this life for the aakhirah - ameen!

You are asking something that I can only answer as your sister in Islam, and not from any scholarly viewpoint as I am in no way a scholar. However, there are a few aspects to be addressed here.

      1. Your pregnancy symptoms and pain: it is hard to believe that it is psychological, because pregnancy is a most difficult and uncomfortable experience (along with being an true miracle from Allah). As I can attest to, first pregnancies seem to be the worst as it is all new to our bodies and seemingly more severe. We don't know how to cope or manage all the changes that are happening, so we suffer more than in the ensuing pregnancies, where our experience helps us find strategies for dealing with morning sickness, discomforts, etc.

I was sick for the first 5+ months of my first pregnancy, mashaa'Allah, followed by swelling that kept me looking and feeling like a sausage until I delivered. The pregnancies afterwards were very different mashaa'Allah.

Another factor is that slim women feel much more than heavier/larger women in pregnancy. The displacement of intestines, stomach, and other internal organs causes discomfort, pain, and numerous side effects that are all much more noticeable when affecting a slim body.

We must also bear in mind that everyone has a different pain threshold, and some can tolerate a lot of discomfort whereas others cannot.

    2. 2. From a belief standpoint, the pain is most certainly from Allah, as is everything. What it represents is something unknown, although it can be an expiation to put your account in a most excellent situation before becoming a mother, or a test to increase your rewards of motherhood, or a reminder of how important it is to take care of your body and the well-being of your unborn child...to name a few reasons. The key in all this is that every one of these things are tests that are meant to make us turn to Allah. They are to compel us to make istighfar, to seek Allah's forgiveness, His guidance, and His relief. It's all about tawakkal, Sarah. It's all about KNOWING it is sent to you out of perfect love for your best end.

    3. 3. There are very specific dua' to make for pain and sickness and the Qur'an is shifa'a.

      بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ
Abu Abdullah bin Abul-As (peace be upon him) reported:
I complained to the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه و سلم ) about a pain I had in my body. The messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه و سلم ) said, " Place your hand where you feel pain and say: 'Bismillah (With the Name of Allah)' three times; and then repeat seven times: A'udhu bi'izzatillahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu wa 'uhadhiru ( I seek refuge with Allah and with His Power from the evil that afflicts me and that which I apprehend)
      [Muslim]

The dua' for sickness is to say, with hands placed on the affected area, "A'sal Allahu al atheem, Rabb il arsh il atheem, an yashfeeni" seven times.

Surah al Fatiha is a cure for all ills as well, reciting over the affected place seven times.

You will find more on this, but be sure to go to sahih sources, such as the hadith from Al Bukhari, Muslim, or websites specifically for adherance to the Sunnah inshaa'Allah.

In addition, do not forget your morning and evening (bedtime) adhkaar to protect yourself from harm.

      4. There is always the possibility that you are being affect by the evil eye. However, the cure is the same - istighfar and Qur'an and dua'.

I don't know if I've said anything to help at all, but I will use my strongest weapon in your defense, my dua'. May Allah grant you cleansing and shifa'a, protecting you from the harm of all his creation, and increasing you in emaan, taqwa, tawakkal, and ibaadah while erasing your sins - ameen!

Much love to you, Sarah, and a big Mama Mai hug!
